perforated metal         Architectural firm estudio florida has completed the renovation of a residence located in buenos aires, argentina. As part of the project, an additional floor was installed above the existing structure, so all spaces and functions were redesigned to create a comfortable and efficient living environment.
In “zapiola house” by estudio florida, the ground floor is freed from existing walls to create a single open space where the kitchen, dining and living room coexist facing the courtyard. On the new upper level are the bedrooms located above the large roof.
The main challenge for this project was to integrate the new extension into the original building, not duplicating the existing building, but finding a new design language to create balance. In search of this language, the architects restored the brickwork of the former façade and courtyard, while adding new materials such as ceramic and granite tiles, as well as a perforated metal façade that extends to all floors of the residence. In addition to the natural ventilation of the bedrooms, this mesh provides privacy and provides an atypical view of the city from the rooms.
