The structured packing is made of corrugated and textured metal plates. The inclination angles of the corrugations of adjacent plates are opposite to the vertical column axis, and a mixing chamber is formed at each point where the corrugations intersect. The result is a very open honeycomb structure with inclined flow channels, providing a relatively high surface area, but very low resistance to air flow. This structure ensures excellent and uniform wetting under low and high liquid loads. Column operation under low liquid load requires a specially designed distributor to ensure adequate surface wetting.
